Rifugio Plose to Rifugio Genova
The day started as one of those “could be anywhere, any time of year” days- very misty-moisty or “atmospheric”.
As we’d walked up to the Plose on a scenic path and not the soulless official AV2, we’d not seen any of the triangular markers for the route. This was our first but we found that they were sportingly spaced:
The clouds became patchy and we got the occasional glimpse of the scenery and our way ahead.
 |
We’d be walking through the forest and (eventually) to the left of the 45 degree slope on the left |
I love walking above clouds but beside them as the roll in even more.
We’d passed a number of posts with small signs indicating Brixen. On examination, they were for a marathon and there were also occasional small yellow lines painted on the path showing the marathon’s route. Paul and I agreed not to bother training for next year’s event.

We won’t be taking part next year! |
As the day wore on, we continued to get tantalising glimpses of the scenery to come.
 |
We would be continuing through the forests and down to a road to the left of the wooded shoulder |
Having descended some 650m (always a little frustrating) we walked roughly 1.5km along a road before continuing through more woods and beginning 500m plod up to the Forcela de Pütia. There was a reward for losing 650m and having to gain 500m- we were in real Dolomite limestone county and all the architecture it offers.
The final plod up to the forcela was steep but we were able to see where we’d started the day and, despite the rolling green landscape, the vies were very pretty.

…and looking back. The Rifugio Plose was just visible |
Once we had passed through the Forcela di Pütia we were in real limestone county with spectacular views of th mountains ahead of us. The way ahead to the Rifugio Genva was more or less level so we really could drink in the atmosphere.

Traversing below the pinnacles towards the Rifugio Genova |
As the going was relatively level and therefore easy, we took the opportunity to look around and back- in time to see the clouds blowing through the Forcela de Pütia.

Just before reaching the rifugio we caught could see the start of tomorrow’s route…
 |
Tomorrow’s delights! |
Although the day hadn’t been too arduous, the rifugio was a welcome sight even though we had to descend several metres to get to it.

Rifugio Genova |
We have a great private room-bed linen and towels provided rather than having to use our own sheet sleeping bag and travel towels. The view wasn’t quite so good as we’re at the back but there’s a trampoline for our entertainment this evening- should we wish to use it.
